Spain crowned 2026 FIFA World Champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time.
East Rutherford, New Jersey: Spain were crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in a dramatic final. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time, breaking Argentine hearts and securing Spain’s second World Cup title.

Argentina fought bravely and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez made several crucial saves to keep the match level for long periods. However, Argentina’s challenge became tougher after Enzo Fernández was sent off late in the game, reducing the defending champions to ten men.
The final also marked what could be Lionel Messi’s last World Cup appearance, ending in disappointment as Spain’s disciplined defence held firm. Spain finished the tournament by conceding only one goal, highlighting their dominance throughout the competition.
