Rohit Sharma rewrite history, become only the 2nd Indian captain to secure two ICC trophies. India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final in Dubai. The two teams have already met this tournament, in the group stage in Dubai, where Rohit Sharma’s side got the better of the Black Caps. India chased the target of 252 against New Zealand in 49 overs. India 254/6 in 49 overs.
Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat first. They had made a quick start, with Will Young and Ravindra both riding their luck as India missed a few chances for early wickets. But Varun eventually made the breakthrough, taking out Young lbw in the eighth over.
Ravindra’s promising start was cut short for 37 runs off 29 balls, bowled by Kuldeep, who then caught-and-bowled Kane Williamson two overs later. India put a stranglehold on New Zealand as their spinners took control in the middle of the game with Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav both taking two wickets. They managed to restrict New Zealand to a run-rate of 3.30 in overs 11 to 30. But a late resurgence saw the Black Caps put on 50 runs in the last five overs to boost their score to 251/7 in 50 overs.
India chase off to a strong start with Rohit sharma and Shubman Gill have given India a solid foundation in their persuit of 252 runs. Glenn Phillips took a tremendous catch, leaping to his right to remove Shubman Gill for 31,Rohit makes 58th half centuary and got out at 76 runs. India lost wickets in regular intervals.
