England Triumph in High-Scoring 3-2 Clash to Eliminate Mexico
England survived a thrilling contest to defeat co-hosts Mexico 3-2 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16, securing a place in the quarterfinals where they will face Norway.
Jude Bellingham gave England control with a first-half brace before Mexico fought back through Julián Quiñones. Harry Kane restored England’s two-goal cushion from the penalty spot early in the second half, but the match took another dramatic turn when defender Jarell Quansah was sent off after a VAR review. Raúl Jiménez converted a late penalty to make it 3-2, yet England held on despite intense Mexican pressure.
The match was delayed by an hour because of thunderstorms in Mexico City, adding to the drama before kick-off. Despite playing with 10 men for much of the second half, Thomas Tuchel’s side showed resilience to secure victory and advance to the last eight.
