Norway Stun Brazil 2-1 to Reach Historic Quarterfinals
Erling Haaland produced a sensational late double as Norway shocked five-time champions Brazil 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16, securing a historic place in the quarterfinals for the first 
Brazil dominated much of the contest and missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Bruno Guimarães had a first-half penalty saved by Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, whose outstanding performance kept his side in the match.
With just over 10 minutes remaining, Haaland broke the deadlock before adding a second goal in stoppage time to silence the Brazilian fans. Neymar pulled one back from the penalty spot deep into added time, but it proved only a consolation as Brazil crashed out of the tournament.
The result marks Brazil’s earliest World Cup exit since 1990, while Norway advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the Mexico vs England Round of 16 clash. Haaland’s brace also took his tournament tally to seven goals, putting him among the competition’s leading scorers.
