Canada booked its place in the Round of 16 with a dramatic 1–0 victory over South Africa. Midfielder Stephen Eustáquio scored the decisive goal in stoppage time (92nd minute) after a tightly contested match, breaking South African hearts and sending the co-host nation through to the next round.
Despite South Africa’s disciplined defensive display, Canada created the better chances throughout the game. Head coach Jesse Marsch praised his players after the historic win, while the return of captain Alphonso Davies from injury provided a major boost ahead of the Round of 16. Canada will now face the winner of Netherlands vs Morocco
